First Look: Chuckanut Brewery’s P Nut Beer Hall

This Thursday, December 9th, the next chapter of Chuckanut Brewery’s history begins as they open their new P Nut Beer Hall in Southeast Portland. Located on the corner of SE Caruthers and 9th, directly behind Palomar, it’s also within a few blocks of Baerlic Brewing & Ranch Pizza, The BeerMongers, Apex Bar, and a wealth of dining options.

Situated on the west side of Day One Distribution’s new warehouse, the cozy space will feature 11 draft taps of their perennially award-winning beers, plus cider, soda, and snack options, similar to their South Nut location at the Port of Skagit in Burlington, Washington. The P Nut will soon have regular food truck options available as well, which will be announced and updated on the brewery’s instagram and facebook accounts.

The interior of the taproom will feature a large beer hall table crafted by Russell Wood, a number of smaller tables, and abundant counter seating around the perimeter of the space. Those familiar with Chuckanut’s recently closed North Nut location will notice some recognizable décor that’s made its way south to impart some history and enhance the vibe. The back of the taproom features a foosball table, as well as a party room for private groups, game nights, and special events that’s available for reservation by email. For those that prefer an open air experience, there will be a wealth of picnic tables for seating out front.

In addition to draft options, customers will also be able to purchase kegs and growler fills, plus cans and bottles of Chuckanut beer when available. A variety of Chuckanut gear will also be available for purchase including glassware, hoodies, hats, beanies, t-shirts, and more.

For those unfamiliar with the history of Chuckanut Brewery, it was founded in Bellingham, Washington in 2008, by owners Will and Mari Kemper, who have been working within the craft beer industry since they co-founded Thomas Kemper Brewing in 1984.

Over the past 14 years, Chuckanut has won 25 medals at the Great American Beer Festival, including Small Brewpub/Brewer of the Year in 2009 and Small Brewery/Brewer of the Year in 2011. Two of their former brewers have gone on to great success as well, with Josh Pfriem founding pFriem Family Brewers in 2012, and Kevin Davey becoming the brewmaster at Wayfinder Beer in 2016.

Guests of all ages (including children until 8pm) are invited to visit the P Nut Beer Hall at 920 SE Caruthers St. Suite A, Portland, OR 97214 during the following hours: Sunday-Thursday 12-9 pm and Friday-Saturday 12-10 pm.
