The way 2019 has gone thus far, it’s really seemed like the Year of the Lager in Portland. Sure, we’ve all seen a rise in interest – better yet, a return to Lagers for beer lovers everywhere. Yet over the past 5 years, quite a few Lager specific breweries have sprouted up in Portland, and the entire PNW.
So after a few relatively exclusive Lager fests over the past few months, it only seems appropriate that a bigger and more diverse assortment will be on hand this weekend at one of Portland’s favorite brewpubs, Ex Novo.
This second annual Lagerbier celebration, creatively dubbed “Lagerhosen,” will take place this Saturday, August 24th, from 12-9pm at the Ex Novo Brewing pub on North Flint St. in Portland.
This year they’ve invited 21 top tier breweries with over 20 GABF medals in Lager categories alone from the Northwest, New Mexico, and beyond. Each brewery will have their own table and dedicated tap to pour their delicious Lagerbiers, and will have representatives there to chat about their take on the style. Ex Novo will also be pouring 7 lagers of their own, including the Perle Haggard Pilsner and Most Interesting Lager in the World.
Food specials throughout the day will be available for purchase and will focus on traditional German fare. though regular food menu items will also be available. For $20, attendees will receive a custom Lagerhosen mug to keep and 8 wooden nickels each good for a 12cL pour at any table. Additional wooden nickels will be available to purchase for $1. Come early from Noon-1pm and meet the brewers or brewery staff at their tables!
I look forward to seeing you there!
