It’s been intriguing to watch the revamping of Widmer Brothers brand lineup and their operations in general over the past few years. Of particular note, the prioritization of the Innovation Brewhouse, which appears to have had the biggest impact in all they do.
The creative approach they’ve taken has been guided by Thomas Bleigh, CBA’s Innovation Brewmaster, along with the Widmer Innovation Brewmaster, Parker Penley. They’ve slowly built a long list of new, delicious offerings that are now beginning to become regular offerings.
So if you haven’t checked out the recently remodeled pub or any of the 27 taps now flowing on site, tomorrow would probably be an ideal day to do so. At their pub, from 4 to 7pm, Widmer will be celebrating the release of their Portland Pub Series Variety Pack. The pack includes the Russell Street IPA, PDX Pils, Steel Bridge Porter, and the newly bottled Hefe X, showcasing Mosaic Hops.
They’ll be offering flights including all four variety pack beers, have Chicagoland deep dish pizza, and fun games to give guests a shot at winning beer for a year, as well as other prizes. I’ll be there around 5pm, so I hope you’ll stop by for a pint or a flight!
Check out their facebook event page and all the details below about the event, the variety pack, and each of the beers.
On Wednesday, March 21, Widmer Brothers Brewing will host a launch party for its Portland Pub Series Variety Pack.
The Variety Pack includes four beers born out of its innovation brewery, Russell Street IPA, PDX Pils, Steel Bridge Porter, and the launch of their new Hefe varietal, Hefe X.
The first of an ongoing experimental hefe series, the initial Hefe X is brewed with Mosaic hops to amp up the hop profile with a decidedly hazy tropical character and smooth, citrusy mouthfeel.
At its launch party, which runs 4-7pm on Wednesday, March 21, Widmer Brothers will offer flights with all four variety pack beers, have Chicagoland deep dish pizza and fun games to give guests a shot at winning beer for a year and smaller prizes.
A ring toss of 12 bottles will have one Hefe X bottle. The first to toss their ring onto the Hefe X bottle will win beer for a year (one 12-pack per month). Widmer Brothers will have smaller prizes for hitting other bottles, and have a dart board–those who throw a bullseye will earn a free crowler to-go.
Each person that attends will get two raffle tickets–one to be used at each game.
Hefe X Series
Building on the popularity of Widmer Brothers flagship Hefe, which is Oregon’s favorite craft beer, the brewery is launching its first ever “Hefe X” series in 2018. The series will feature 13 experimental Hefe concoctions that the brewers have developed in our innovation brewery. The first experimental Hefe is brewed with Mosaic hops to amp up the hop profile with a decidedly hazy tropical character and smooth citrusy mouthfeel. In addition to Hefe X Mosaic in bottles, this series will include 12 draft-only variations sold exclusively at our pub.
“Hazy beers are all the rage right now, and with Hefe, we’ve had a true hazy beer since 1986. The idea behind the Hefe X series is to bring that signature haziness of Hefe to life in a hoppier way, while remaining true to the original,” said Widmer Brothers Innovation Brewmaster Parker Penley. “We’ve always loved the bright haze of Hefe, and wanted to bring to bottle something that provided that same haziness in a hoppier version.”
Portland Pub Series
Hefe X is one of four beers in Widmer Brothers’ new Portland Pub Series 12-pack, which will highlight beers born out of its Innovation Brewery on Russell Street in Portland, Oregon. These beers all began as experiments launched on draft at the pub and quickly became fan favorites, leading Widmer Brothers to expand availability in bottles.
Joining Hefe X in the Portland Pub Series are Russell Street IPA, PDX Pils and Steel Bridge Porter. Each beer features new packaging in 2018 that celebrates Portland with colorful illustrations.
“The Innovation Brewery gives us a chance to experiment and truly get feedback direct from the public about what they love,” said Bleigh. “Each of these four beers have been big hits in our pub, so it made sense to combine the four as part of our Portland Pub Series.”
