Function Hosts Fort George Event This Week
For a number of weeks, around this time last year, there was this awesome little pop-up event that went down every Tuesday and Wednesday in the Alphabet District. Taking place at Function, a special event space at NW 23rd and Lovejoy, it focused on one brewery at a time and was always accompanied by some savory food options.
This year they’re at it again, except that now each takeover is an entire week long and will offer food menus custom catered to the brewery being featured. They kicked things off by hosting Breakside Brewing in January. Over the next ten days (February 18th-28th) they’re spotlighting Fort George Brewery and will have quite a variety of their offerings on hand.
Fresh from their Festival of Dark Arts last weekend in Astoria, Fort George is still in the midst of celebrating Stout Month, which has quickly become a tradition each February. With that in mind, the highlight of the list is their Matryoshka Imperial Stout, which will be available on draft as well as bottles.
Three of their limited rotating series of beers will also be featured, including the latest Fields of Green (Irene), Skies of Wonder (Adore), and Waves of Silence (Burgee), in both draft and 16oz can formats. You’ll also find the City of Dreams Hazy Pale and Cavatica Stout available on draft and in cans, as well as From Astoria with Love (Matryoshka’s Imperial Stout base) on draft only.
Fort George’s team will be in the house Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm and their apparel, headgear, and glassware will for sale all week.
The food menu, created by Chef James Jones, will be just as impressive in it’s variety. I’m already licking my lips…
teak bites
tender filet mignon sous vide, grilled onions and mushrooms w/ fort george cavatica stout reduction
bblt
bacon bleu cheese spread, lettuce and tomato on toasted sourdough w/ crisp bacon & spicy pickle.
funeral potatoes
creamy fort george beer cheese gratin potatoes w/ garlic, scallions and toasted shallot crunch.
stuffed mushrooms
mushroom medley duxelle w/ roasted garlic cashew cream & garlic crumb
buffalo cauliflower
roasted cauliflower crisp, celery and carrots w/ cracked pepper bleu ranch
tomato duo
sweet grape and tart sundried tomatoes w/ flat leaf parsley herb vinaigrette & toasted shallot crunch.
This series is the brainchild of Function’s owner Casey Armstrong and Nick Lopez, who helmed last year’s Small Bar Pop-up and will be hosting at least 2 or 3 more takeovers in this location over the next 6 months. This iteration will be taking place Monday-Thursday, 2pm to Close, then Friday-Sunday, Noon to Close.
